Overview

STP design, EPC and operations — across the full capacity spectrum

SR Paryavaran Engineers designs, builds, commissions and operates sewage treatment plants from 10 KLD packaged units for institutional campuses through to 50+ MLD municipal plants under central and state government missions. Technology selection — MBR, SBR, MBBR or extended aeration — is driven by treated-water reuse requirements, land availability, odour sensitivity and lifecycle cost.

SRPEPL has delivered 450+ packaged Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) systems and manufactures its own AEROFLO MBR flat-sheet membranes in India through SRP Membranes. The anchor municipal reference is the AMRUT Panchkula and Gurugram programme — 15 STPs and 100 km of sewerage pipeline, ₹75 Cr — delivered for Haryana Urban Local Bodies.

Technology Selection

STP technologies — MBR, SBR, MBBR, extended aeration

The right STP technology is determined by four site-specific factors: treated-water reuse standard, available land area, odour sensitivity of surrounding land use, and lifecycle cost. SRPEPL designs and builds across all four mainstream configurations.

Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) combines biological treatment with membrane filtration in a single tank. MBR consistently produces effluent meeting BOD ≤ 5 mg/L, TSS ≤ 5 mg/L and turbidity < 1 NTU — well ahead of CPCB 2017 norms. The compact footprint makes MBR the technology of choice when land is constrained and treated water is directed to reuse.

Footprint40–60% less than conventional ASP
Effluent qualityBOD ≤ 5, TSS ≤ 5, Turbidity <1 NTU
Reuse suitabilityDirect for horticulture, flushing, cooling
SRPEPL membranesAEROFLO flat-sheet (manufactured in-house)
Packaged range10 KLD to 500 KLD pre-engineered units

Best suited for

Institutional campuses and residential townships — land-constrained sites
Defence formations and military cantonments
Hotels, hospitals, commercial complexes — where treated water is reused
Municipal STPs where reuse is mandated
AEROFLO membrane
In-house advantage: AEROFLO MBR flat-sheet membranes are manufactured at Panchkula and Baddi — eliminating import dependency and controlling replacement cost for the life of the plant.

Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) carries out biological treatment, settling and decanting in a single tank in sequential cycles — eliminating the need for a separate secondary clarifier. SBR handles variable influent flows better than continuous-flow systems, making it well-suited for municipal applications where flow varies significantly between day and night.

Effluent qualityBOD ≤ 10, TSS ≤ 20 mg/L (CPCB 2017 compliant)
Flow variationHandles high variation — suited for municipal flows
Land requirementModerate — no separate clarifier required
Nutrient removalBiological N and P removal achievable

Best suited for

Municipal STPs — 1 MLD to 50 MLD
Government mission STPs (AMRUT, SBM(U), Namami Gange)
Industrial townships and large campuses
SBR plant / municipal STP

Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) grows biomass on plastic carrier media suspended in the aeration tank, achieving high biological treatment efficiency in a compact volume. MBBR is particularly effective for retrofitting existing activated sludge plants — the carriers can be added to existing tanks to increase capacity without new civil construction.

Capacity upgradeRetrofit existing ASP tanks — no new civil
Effluent qualityBOD ≤ 10, TSS ≤ 20 mg/L with clarifier
FootprintCompact — high volumetric loading
Sludge productionLower than conventional ASP

Best suited for

Retrofitting and upgrading existing STPs
Industrial wastewater with high organic load
Sites needing capacity increase with minimal civil work
MBBR media / bioreactor

Extended aeration (conventional activated sludge process with long HRT) is the most widely deployed STP configuration in India — low sludge production, proven operation, and low operating complexity. It is the default specification for many institutional and municipal STPs where treated water does not need to meet reuse-grade quality.

ComplexityLow — operator-friendly, proven at all scales
Effluent qualityBOD ≤ 20, TSS ≤ 30 mg/L (without tertiary)
Land requirementHigher than MBR / SBR
Sludge productionLower than conventional ASP at standard SRT

Best suited for

Municipal STPs where land is available
Rural ULBs and peri-urban STPs
Sites not requiring treated-water reuse
aeration tank / activated sludge plant

Differentiators

Why SR Paryavaran Engineers is chosen for STP projects

1
450+ packaged MBR systems delivered
The 450+ figure spans institutional, defence, residential and commercial deployments across India — one of the largest MBR installed bases from a single Indian EPC company with in-house membrane manufacturing. This is volume-proven manufacturing, not prototype delivery.
2
In-house AEROFLO MBR membrane manufacturing
SRPEPL manufactures its own AEROFLO MBR flat-sheet membranes at two Indian facilities through SRP Membranes. This eliminates import dependency for the most critical consumable in any MBR plant, controls membrane replacement cost over the plant's lifetime, and allows SRPEPL to hold replacement-stock commitments that imported-membrane systems cannot match.
3
Municipal-scale EPC under government missions
The AMRUT Panchkula-Gurugram contract (15 STPs + 100 km sewerage, ₹75 Cr) demonstrates SRPEPL's ability to execute distributed multi-site STP programmes under government procurement norms — tendered scope, audited billing, CPWD/SoR-referenced rates, performance-linked operations.
4
Full lifecycle — EPC through multi-year O&M
SRPEPL offers STP operations under DBO and annuity models for 3–10 year terms, with performance guarantees on treated-water quality. Five regional after-sales offices across India (Gurgaon, Punjab, Kota, Maharashtra, Bangalore) support long-term operated plants.
5
Compliance-grade engineering — CPCB 2017 anchored
STP designs are anchored to CPCB 2017 sewage discharge norms (S.O. 1533(E) dated 13 June 2017) and the CPHEEO Manual on Sewerage and Sewage Treatment Systems (2013 revision). SRPEPL is certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018.
