Two water loops in every thermal power plant
A thermal power plant runs two mission-critical water systems. Both degrade over plant life, and a failure in either cascades into compliance penalties, derating or forced outage.
The process loop (raw water → clarification → DM plant → boiler → turbine → condenser) produces the demineralised boiler feed water that protects boilers and turbines. The effluent loop (cooling-tower blowdown + DM regeneration waste + coal & ash water + service water) must be recovered to Zero Liquid Discharge so no liquid effluent crosses the plant boundary.

Five solutions across the plant water chain
SRPEPL covers the full TPP water envelope through five intervention points. Each can be delivered standalone or combined under EPC, retrofit, supply, O&M or AMC engagement models.
Membrane-first ZLD for thermal power plants
SRPEPL delivers TPP ZLD with a membrane-first architecture: recover the maximum water with membranes, and reserve thermal evaporation only for the irrecoverable brine. Streams are segregated, stabilised in pre-treatment, clarified through UF/MBR, bulk-desalinated through multi-stage RO, pushed further on high-pressure RO/DTRO for high-TDS and high-silica streams, and only then sent to MEE/MVR for final concentration. This makes ZLD a hydraulic problem rather than a thermal one — smaller evaporator duty, lower energy cost and more stable operation.

Restore an ageing DM plant without rebuilding it
Over 10–15 years TDS rises, hardness creeps up and silica varies seasonally — so the resin treats less water per regeneration. SRPEPL's answer is a skid-mounted UF + RO pre-treatment retrofit installed ahead of the existing DM plant — the legacy assets stay, but the resin now sees a fraction of the original ionic load.

One-to-one UF & RO replacement — manufactured in India
SRPEPL manufactures UF, RO and MBR membrane elements in-house under Make-in-India and supplies them as OEM-agnostic, dimensionally compatible, fully test-certified one-to-one replacements. Each element ships with a flow, integrity, dimensional and permeability test certificate — 100% of supplied elements — after an element-by-element performance audit.

One partner operates both water loops — performance liability on SRPEPL
SRPEPL runs multi-year O&M across the full TPP water envelope — process water and wastewater under a single operator. The plant focuses on generation; SRPEPL holds the water performance liability. Contracts cover trained manpower, chemicals & consumables, mechanical & instrumentation spares, defined KPIs with monthly MIS, and documented EHS and PSU audit support.

Frequently asked questions
Thermal power plants in India are required to operate on a Zero Liquid Discharge basis under Central Electricity Authority (CEA) norms — no liquid effluent crosses the plant boundary. Streams that must be recovered include cooling-tower blowdown, DM-plant regeneration waste, coal-handling and ash water, and service water. SRPEPL delivers CEA-compliant ZLD using a membrane-first architecture.
A membrane-first ZLD recovers most of the water with UF, RO and high-pressure RO before any stream reaches the evaporator, so the MEE/MVR sees only the irrecoverable brine. This cuts the evaporator's size and steam/power consumption sharply, controls scaling species upstream, and turns ZLD into a more predictable hydraulic problem. Evaporator-led ZLDs carry high capital intensity and unstable OPEX.
Yes. Installing a skid-mounted UF + RO pre-treatment ahead of the existing DM plant removes 97–99% of the ionic load before water reaches the resin, so regeneration frequency, acid/caustic consumption and end-of-run sodium/silica slip all fall — without replacing the DM assets or taking a long outage. SRPEPL executed exactly this at RVUNL's Chhabra 2×660 MW supercritical plant (commissioned December 2025, completion-certified March 2026).
Yes. SRPEPL manufactures UF (SRP ULTRAFLO), brackish-water RO (SRP BW), ultra-low-pressure RO (SRP ULP), seawater RO (SRP SW) and submerged MBR (SRP AEROFLO) elements at two units in India under Make-in-India. Each element ships with a 100% test certificate covering flow, integrity, dimensional and permeability checks. NSIC, MSME and MII certified, EIL enlisted Code S168.
SRP GREENSTEAM™ is a membrane-based boiler-feed-water system using RO followed by electrodeionisation (EDI) to replace resin demineralisation entirely. It produces ultra-pure BFW (typically <0.06 µS/cm and <5 ppb silica) suitable for supercritical (≥180 bar) operation, with zero chemical regeneration — which also removes the high-TDS DM-regen waste stream. RO + EDI is globally proven including Con Edison's ~1,530 m³/hr East River repowering.
Yes. SRPEPL offers multi-year O&M (3, 5 or 10 years) across process water and wastewater, with performance liability on SRPEPL — covering manpower, chemicals, spares, planned membrane top-up, KPI-based monthly MIS and PSU audit support. Current power-sector O&M includes the RVUNL Chhabra DMRO+UF complex and the SAIL Bokaro ZLD complex.
SRPEPL is enlisted with EIL under Code S168 and holds NSIC, MSME (UDYAM) and Make-in-India certifications, with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 management systems. It has executed or is executing for HPGCL, RVUNL, SAIL, MRPL and CPCL.
